Office of internationalization

The University's COIL program is being designed and facilitated by the Office of Internationalization. The office is available to provide assistance and feedback on individual faculty's development and implementation of COIL courses. Two faculty members are especially beneficial if support is needed in designing courses and finding partners.

Casey Dinger: Executive and Academic Director for Internationalization. Casey develops, implement and facilitate initiatives related to the office. His responsibilities also include overseeing and leading curriculum development, assessment, instructor development. COIL is currently one of the major initiatives overseen by Casey. When developing your own courses Casey is the first person you should communicate with.

DU is in the process of selecting the next Director of Strategic Partnerships in the Office of Internationalization. They oversee growing and maintaining relationships between the University of Denver and its partner institutions, along with facilitating programs between patterns that include COIL. They are an excellent source to use if you are having difficulties finding a partner faculty for COIL.

The Office of Teaching and Learning can assist faculty with the development of learning experiences that are accessible and inclusive of ALL students and adhere to Universal Design for Learning (UDL) principles. Take a minute to watch this short video that will briefly explain Universal Design for Learning. Although the video is targeted at K-12 teachers, the basic principles of Universal Design for Learning also apply to higher education. Though this resource is directed towards learning outcomes for disabled, English language learners, and those with different learning methods. This resource can prove beneficial when creating coursework that transcends nationalities and cultures.

Faculty Learning Community

FLCs are informal cross-disciplinary groups, facilitated and run by faculty members, that meet regularly to explore teaching topics in depth. Participants in FLCs learn from each other, investigate and assess teaching methods within a supportive cohort and reflect and become more purposeful about their current practice. Whether you are a new faculty member looking to learn teaching tips, or an experienced faculty member seeking new insights, FLCs are a fun way to connect with other instructors and gain new perspectives. By meeting regularly (for example, every three weeks), FLCs allow you to dig deep into questions about teaching and learning and become more purposeful about your teaching.

Holding FLC's devoted to COIL will be beneficial for faculty both before, during, and after courses are held.
