Welcome to the Writing Resource Guide

Hello! Welcome to the Writing Resource Guide offered through the College of Professional Studies at the University of Denver! This guide has been created as a resource for you as you pursue an academic program at the College of Professional Studies. You’ll have access to this information during your time as a student, so please feel free to reference this resource guide throughout your academic journey.

In this Writing Resource Guide, you’ll find four main areas: academic writing basics, grammar basics, formatting and references, and additional resources. Each section of this guide has information relevant to your experience as a College of Professional Studies student. Strong writing skills are essential in nearly every position, so we have integrated opportunities to write in each program.

We encourage you to use this Writing Resource Guide, as well as other campus resources available to you, including the Writing Center, which offers writing assistance in person and online. The College of Professional Studies also hosts Open Write Nights hosted by faculty – this is an opportunity to pop in, either on campus or online, to ask specific questions about your writing. And remember, your instructor should be your first point of contact if you have a writing question regarding a specific assignment or task within your course. Your academic advisor and academic director are also available, as needed.
